Foundation of O.S.A.F.

On May 5th 1958 in Sao Paulo, Brazil a resolution was passed creating the South American Organization for the promotion of thoroughbred racehorse breeding: “O.S.A.F.”. Subsequently, at a meeting held at the Brazilian Jockey Club, the rules and objectives were established by its members (South American Jockey Clubs, Stud Books, Breeders and Owners Associations).
The organization was set up in response to a perceived need for one body to represent the common interests of the various breeding and racing authorities and to promote horseracing and breeding throughout the continent.
The first chairman of O.S.A.F. was Dr. Osvaldo Aranha, an important Brazilian breeder and respected political figure.
At present there are nine member countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay and Venezuela.
